In 2025, one familiar voice in the poker community went quiet. The Only Friends podcast came to an end.
The show started in 2022, created by high-stakes cash game player Matt Berkey and a rotating group of poker friends. At first, it was just casual conversations about poker and daily life.
Over time, the podcast changed. It slowly became a place where poker news, controversies, and opinions were discussed almost every day.
After more than three years and over 700 episodes, the show stopped. Berkey explained that internal structure issues and a loss of purpose made it hard to continue.
Only Friends didn’t end because of one single problem. It ended because the project had grown into something different from what it was meant to be.
There are no plans for a return. But its impact on the poker community is unlikely to be forgotten.
